Threats / Problems / Issues

Pollution from liquid waste is a particular threat to the wetland ecosystems of the Cayman Islands. Much of this waste arrives in the form of untreated sewage discharged from visiting cruise ships. Meanwhile, the dumping of solid waste - especially plastics - poses a significant danger for nesting turtles and other coastal wildlife.
